Justifying the tax hike

July 4, 2010: Explaining the reasons and the government’s stand on the recent tax revision which did not go down well with the public, Prime Minister Jigmi Y. Thinley in his report on the State of the Nation last week said although unpopular, the tax reform is in the public and the national interest and that the new tax measures are not aimed at increasing government revenue but to make use of tax as an instrument of policy to guide the economy in the right direction.
