Class twelve results out
Written by TSHERING CHODEN

The overall pass percentage of 2009 class XII results improved by 0.82% compared to the 2008 results.

Of the total 6,789 candidates registered for the examination which includes 26 government higher secondary schools and seven private higher secondary schools, 6,530 appeared for the examination of which 600 candidates failed.

According to Bhutan Board of Examinations BBE), the pass percentage of science stood at 93.46%, 85.60% in commerce stream and 82.68% in arts stream.

The topper in the science stream is Yeshey Samdrup of Motithang Higher Secondary School (Thimphu) with top score of 90%.

Kelzang Wangmo of Gelephu Higher Secondary School (Sarpang) topped in the commerce field with 86% and Langa Tenzin of Nangkor Higher Secondary School, Pemagatshel with 84% toped in the arts discipline.

As for the subject wise performance in terms of the pass percentage students did well in english, dzongkha, geography, dzongkha rigzung, physics, chemistry and computer studies.

The secretary of BBE, Dr Phub Rinchhen, said that every year the worst performance by the candidates individually is in economics.

This year too the lowest pass percentage was in economics with just 64.77% passing the subject.

At the Institute of Language and Culture Studies (Semtokha), 216 candidates registered from which 186 passed and in Dzongkha Institute 19 candidates passed out of 21 registered candidates.

From among the schools, Trashitse Higher Secondary School (Wangrom) had 100% pass percentage while Prince Namgyal Wangchuck ACA Higher Secondary School had the least with 67.2%.

“Looking at the pass percentage we can’t really say which school did the best because we will go in detail subject wise and check the performance of the students but as a whole I would say the science stream student have done very well,” said Dr Phub Rinchhen.

As there is no cut off point for class 12, we will take the highest mark score of the student and take out the percentage. So that it is easier to keep them in merit basis as usual, he added.

The BBE will allow the candidates to recheck their results between February 1-26.

The candidate will be allowed to recheck maximum of two subjects paying Nu 300 a paper.
